The win improved the Sox to 31-34 and left them three games behind the floundering first place Detroit Tigers. Ozzie Guillen's club, which is 15-16 on the road this year, will head to Cincinnati for a three game set with the Reds after today's finale with the Cubs.
Twenty-six year old Gavin Floyd will take the ball for the Sox today. The 6'5" righty is 4-5 in 13 starts with a 4.94 ERA. He has given up 83 hits and 45 earned runs in 82 innings of work. Floyd has struggled on the road this season, going 2-3 in six away starts with a lofty 7.97 ERA. Opponents are hitting nearly .300 against the Maryland native when he takes the hill in opposing stadiums.
The Cubs fell to 30-31 with yesterday's loss and they are now 4.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers. The slip up was the fifth in their last six games and their 13th at Wrigley Field this year.
The Cubbies will call on ace Carlos Zambrano today to help get the team headed back in the right direction. Zambrano is 4-2 in 10 starts this season with a 3.39 ERA. The Venezuela native, however, has not fared as well in his home starts, all of which have been during the day. The 28 year old is 1-1 in four appearances at Wrigley with a 4.62 ERA. Zambrano has yielded 27 hits and 13 earned runs in 25.1 innings at home and the opposition has hit him at .273 clip.
