MLB Betting Preview: The Colorado Rockies will be gunning for an Inter League series sweep of the Cleveland Indians when the two clubs play the final game of the three-game set tonight at Coors Field in Denver. The Rockies have already clinched their fifth straight series win. Colorado will send lefthander Jorge De La Rosa (1-3, 6.89 ERA) to the mound while Cleveland will counter with lefty Jeremy Sowers (0-1, 7.23 ERA). MLB Betting oddsmakers at online sports wagering giant Sportsbook.com currently have the Rockies listed as 121-moneyline favorites versus the Indians, while the game's total is holding at 10 ½.
De La Rosa is making his second straight start after he was demoted to the bullpen on May 28. De La Rosa has struggled with his command this season, but was extremely sharp in a spot start against the White Sox on June 14. He threw five shutout innings and struck out a career-high eight batters in the no-decision. In six career games against the Indians, De La Rosa is 1-3 with a 7.67 ERA.
In his last start, Sowers once again showed an inability to put away hitters. He'd get ahead in the count, but he couldn't make the pitch that would turn a favorable count into an out. That ended up hurting him badly in his last outing, which a late Tribe rally turned into a no-decision. Sowers gave up nine hits and four runs in 4 2/3 innings. Having squandered a 3-0 lead, he left the ballgame trailing and with his pitch count at almost 100. That's not what the Indians need from him, particularly with the troubles of their bullpen. He will need to pitch deeper into the ballgame if he plans to stick in the rotation. The Rockies defeated the Indians 4-2 as -120 favorites on Wednesday. The six runs fell UNDER the posted over/under (9.5). Jeff Baker finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run for the Rockies. Jeff Francis tossed six innings for the win, allowing two runs off five hits.
Jamey Carroll drove in one run for the Indians. Aaron Laffey gave up three runs off eight hits in six innings to suffer the loss.
