Texas Rangers vs San Diego Padres 2012 MLB Point Spreads

by Matt Foust on Tuesday, June 19th, 2012

rangers hamiltonThe Texas Rangers will take aim at their fifth consecutive win tonight when they face the Padres in game two of their inter-league set in San Diego. This evening’s potential series decider, which features Edinson Volquez and Scott Feldman, is scheduled for a 10:05pm ET start at Petco Park. MLB Point Spreads have the visiting Rangers listed as a -127 moneyline favorite. The Over 7 runs is favored at -115 odds while the Padres are drawing +117 odds to even the series at a game apiece.

Texas improved to 41-27 last night, taking its series opener with the Padres 2-1 for its fourth consecutive victory. The Rangers, who played without the services of Josh Hamilton for a fourth straight game, managed just five hits against three different San Diego pitchers and all of their runs came in the first inning. Matt Harrison limited the Padres to six hits and one run over six innings while the bullpen allowed three hits and zero earned runs over the final three innings.

Now the big question for the Rangers is whether or not they can keep their streak going with seven year veteran Scott Feldman toeing the rubber. Feldman has taken the loss in six straight starts after allowing 29 hits and 21 earned runs over 25 2/3 innings. His ERA now sits at 6.50 for the season and he has struck out just 27 batters in 36 innings pitched.

San Diego, which sports an National League West worst 24-44 record, suffered its third last in its last four games with last night’s setback. The Padres will look to right their course with former Ranger Edinson Volquez on the hill. Volquez’ 3-6 record (14 starts) is not the best, but his ERA is a solid 3.70. The Dominican native got his first win since May 12th last Thursday night (San Diego was 0-5 in Volquez previous five appearances) when he allowed just four hits and one earned run (6.2 innings) in a 6-2 win over the Mariners. Volquez is 1-3 at Petco Park this season, despite a 3.17 home ERA and a .212 opponent batting average.

MLB Odds Betting Trend: The Under is 5-0-2 in the Rangers last seven games as a road favorite with a moneyline spread between 120 and 140 and total between 6 and 7 runs.
