The Giants will attempt to snap out of their recent funk when they engage the Angels in a game three rubber match tonight at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. First pitch in this evening’s series finale is scheduled for 10:05pm ET. MLB Point Spreads have the hosting Angels listed as a -150 moneyline favorite; San Francisco is a +140 play to win tonight’s game. The Over seven runs is presently favored at -120 odds (Under 7 +100).
San Francisco halted a 1-3 run on Monday night with a 5-3 win over Los Angeles in game one of the two team’s inter-league set. The Giants failed to secure a series win yesterday, though, getting shelled in a 12-5 Angel blowout.
Los Angeles jumped all over San Francisco hurler Barry Zito, chasing the former Cy Young winner after just 3 1/3 innings. The Angels tagged Zito for nine hits and eight earned runs to secure a 9-1 lead after just four innings of play. Mike Trout went a perfect 4-for-4 in the game while Albert Pujols and Mark Trumbo combined for five hits and nine RBI.
The Giants managed 13 hits of their own, 10 of which came off of starter C.J. Wilson; however, Wilson limited the damage to just three earned runs over his 6 1/3 innings pitched.
Los Angeles will take aim at its 38th win this evening with 29 year old Jered Weaver on the hill. Weaver, who has not pitched since May 28th (back), owns a 6-1 record in 11 starts; his ERA is an impressive 2.61 and his WHIP (0.93) and batting average against (.195) are among the best in the league. The Long Beach State product is 4-0 with a 0.83 ERA in five home starts this season (.139 batting average against).
Countering Weaver is 34 year old right-hander Ryan Vogelsong. Vogelsong, who has allowed just five earned runs in his last 28 2/3 innings pitched, sports a 6-2 record to go along with a 2.29 ERA. Given Weaver’s numbers at home, the odds may seem stacked against the Giants tonight; however, San Francisco has to be considered a live dog, especially at +140 odds, with Vogelsong on the hill. The Giants are 8-0 in Vogelsong’s last eight outings, winning those eight games by an average of 2.6 runs per game.
MLB Point Spreads Betting Trend: The Angels are 15-1 in Weaver’s last 16 starts as a home favorite with the lone loss in that stretch coming against the Rays in June of 2011.
