College World Series Preview: The Georgia Bulldogs baseball team will play the Stanford Cardinal Saturday afternoon (2 p.m. ET) after four days of rest since their last College World Series game, also against Stanford where they beat the Cardinal 4-3. The Dogs need to win one more game to advance to the national championship best-of-three game series, which will begin on Monday. Stanford would need to beat Georgia on Saturday and Sunday to advance to the championship round. Oddsmakers at online sports wagering leader BetUS.com have installed Georgia as a -120 money line favorite with a 12 ½ run total. The money line price for a wager on Stanford is -110.
Georgia will start Nathan Moreau on Saturday. This season, he is 4-3 with a 5.27 ERA in 15 starts. His last outing came in a start against N.C. State in the Athens Super Regional on June 7. He went 2.2 innings and allowed four runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts in a 10-6 loss to the Wolfpack.
Stanford plans to send left junior left handed pitcher Jeremy Bleich to the mound for today’s game. Has made six starts in seven total appearances with a 2-2 record, 1.24 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 29.0 innings pitched • Has had his ERA drop 92 points over his last four starts despite suffering two losses and a no-decision as 11 of the 12 runs scored against him during period are unearned • Opponents are hitting just .204 against him in 2008.
The Bulldogs have started out 2-0 in the College World Series for only the second time in six appearances. Prior to this year, the last time Georgia began a College World Series 2-0 was the 1990 national championship season. The Bulldogs are now 8-9 all-time at the College World Series.
The Cardinal, with one loss at the College World Series already, must defeat the Bulldogs twice beginning Saturday in order to advance to next week's College World Series Final. Stanford, currently 5-0 in elimination games in the 2008 postseason, defeated Miami, 8-3, Wednesday night to advance to Saturday's game.
