Florida State jumped out to a commanding 8-2 lead and held on as the Gators pushed across three and set the go-ahead run to the plate in the ninth. Mike McGee was a huge factor in the win, picking up his 13th save of the season and tallying his 16th home run as part of a 2-for-4 day at the plate. He led all hitters with four RBIs.
Florida State will send John Gast to the mound on Wednesday. He enters the game with a 7-3 record in 20 appearances. In 68 1/3 innings, Gast has posted a 5.53 ERA, fanned 61 and limited opponents to a .297 batting average against. The Frogs have seen Gast as he tossed a scoreless inning of relief with a walk and two strikeouts on Saturday.
Steven Maxwell will take the mound for the Frogs and enters the game with a 25 2/3 innings streak of not allowing an earned run. All five runs he allowed in the loss at Texas last week were unearned.
