The most recent version of the Subway Series will conclude tonight with a rubber match between the Yankees and Mets at Citi Field. This evening’s series finale is scheduled for an 8:00pm ET start on ESPN. MLB Point Spreads have the Yankees listed as a slight -110 moneyline favorite while the Under 7 runs is drawing -120 odds. The Mets are a +100 home underdog.
The Yankees (42-28, first place AL East) halted their three game skid yesterday and preserved a shot at winning their second series with the Mets by beating Terry Collins crew 4-3. New York trailed 3-0 going into the seventh, but a four run top of the seventh, which was keyed by a three run homer from Raul Ibanez off of Mets starter Chris Young, gave the Yankees the win.
The Bronx Bombers managed just five hits for the game, but two of those were of the long variety. The Mets, who fell to 39-33 with the loss and now trail NL East leader Washington by 3.5 games, produced seven hits, but they left 11 runners on base.
Tonight’s ESPN MLB showcase will feature hurlers C.C. Sabathia (3.55 ERA, 1.23 WHIP in 14 starts) and knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. Sabathia has been his usual self of late, picking up wins in fur of his last five starts to improve to 9-3 on the season. The big lefty worked nine innings his last time out, giving up seven hits and two earned runs while striking out 10 in a 6-2 victory over the Braves.
While Sabathia’s numbers are impressive, Dickey’s are incredible. The 37 year old right hander comes into tonight’s game sporting an 11-1 record and an MLB best 2.00 ERA. Dickey, who also possesses a 0.89 WHIP and 103 strikeouts, has earned a win in six consecutive starts and he has not allowed a run since giving up just one in a May 22nd road appearance against the Pirates (41 2/3 innings). Dickey has worked complete games in his last two outings, giving up just one hit in each of those contests while striking out a total of 25 batters.
If there ever were a live dog, and granted they are not much of one, its the Mets in tonight’s series finale.
MLB Point Spreads Betting Trend: The Mets are 7-3 in their last 10 games as a home underdog with a moneyline spread between 100 and 120.
