by Alexander Banks on Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

MLB Free Picks Preview: Future Hall of Fame right hand pitcher Greg Maddux (3-5, 3.17 ERA) will take the mound for the San Diego Padres tonight versus the Minnesota Twins looking for career win No. 351 after being stuck on 350 since May 10. The Twins will counter with lefty Glen Perkins (3-2, 4.39 ERA).

MLB Free Picks Betting Line: Oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com currently have the Padres listed as -129-money line favorites versus the Twins, while the game's total is sitting at 7.5. The Twins are getting +119 money line odds.

MLB Free Pick : Baseball handicappers at Point-Spreads.com see Maddux as the better pitcher than Perkins even at his advanced age. In baseball pitching is everything. If the Padres can get the righty some runs to work with the Padres should prevail as -129 home favorites. The OVER 7.5 runs also looks like a pretty good total bet.

Maddux will move up a day in the rotation to stay on regular rest. The right-hander allowed a run on five hits and a walk over seven innings for a no-decision against the Tigers in his last start. Maddux has been stuck on 350 career wins since getting past the milestone May 10. In eight succeeding starts. Maddux is 0-1. He has one career start against the Twins that resulted in a no-decision.

Perkins worked his way out of several jams in his last start against Washington on Thursday at the Metrodome. The left-hander went eight innings, allowed 10 hits and three earned runs, but was in trouble during four of those innings. He was aided by a strong defense and an ability to make pitches with runners on base. He will have to cut his pitch count down, as he threw 106 pitches against Washington after throwing 93 in his previous start.

Back-to-back home runs in the top of the ninth inning from Brendan Harris and Brian Buscher lifted the Twins over the Padres 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Minnesota won as +145 road underdogs as the game played under the 7-run total posted by oddsmakers.

Dennys Reyes picked up the win in relief of stater Kevin Slowey for the Twins, while Michael Cuddyer was 2-for-4 with a run batted in for Minnesota.

Chase Headley plated the lone run for San Diego, as closer Trevor Hoffman was tagged with the loss after giving up the pair of homers in the ninth for the Padres.
