MLB Picks: The New York Mets, coming off a 4-6 home stand, are in Milwaukee tonight to face the National League Central leading Brewers. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05pm ET at Miller Park and will be broadcast live on ESPN. The Brewers are listed as a -135 moneyline favorite in online bookmaker BetUS.com's MLB Picks: Mets vs Brewers MLB Betting Odds - June 29, 2009. The Mets, surprisingly, are probably happy to get away from New York City after losing three straight to the cross town rival Yankees, in their own park no less. Jerry Manuel's club scored just three runs in the entire series while allowing the Yanks an average of six per game. The miserable set with New York dropped the Mets to 37-37 on the season and put them 2.5 games back of the Phillies. Starting this evening for New York is Venezuela native Fernando Nieve. Nieve, who has made just four appearances this year, has been a remarkable performer for the Mets thus far. In three starts the 26 year old is 3-0 with a 1.31 ERA. The right-hander has made only two showings in opposing parks, six innings as a starter and two innings of relief work, but has garnered an impressive 2.08 ERA. Milwaukee, who has not been all that overwhelming of late, has managed to stay atop the NL Central with a 40-35 record. They are currently tied with the St. Louis Cardinals in the division standings and both squads are 2.5 games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds. The Brewers, who are beginning the final series in a nine game home stand, enter tonight's showdown fresh off a two games to one series win against San Francisco, despite scoring fewer runs than the Giants in the set. Veteran hurler Braden Looper will make his 10th Miller Park start this evening. The Brewers are 6-3 in his previous nine home starts while he has produced a personal 3-1 record with a 4.33 ERA. The 34 year old Looper was solid in his last outing a 4-3 win against the Twins in Milwaukee. He lasted six innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs. He reversed his recent groundball to flyball ratio, as he forced Minnesota into 12 grounders and 8 flyballs. In his previous start, a 10-4 loss to the Tigers, he gave up 12 flyballs to just three groundballs.
