MLB Odds Mets vs Marlins MLB Picks – June 30th, 2010: The Florida Marlins will go for the sweep tonight against division rival New York, which would give them their third win in the last seven games. This evening's game is scheduled to get underway at 7:10pm ET at Sun Life Stadium; the game will be broadcast live on ESPN2. MLB Odds at SBGglobal.com have the Mets listed as a -110 moneyline favorite and the game total set at 9.5.
New York lost for the fourth time in its last six games last night as the Marlins won 7-6 at Sun Life Stadium. The Mets tied
the game with two runs in the top of the ninth off closer Leo Nunez, but Dan Uggla singled home Jorge Cantu in the bottom of the inning to give Florida the victory.
The loss dropped New York's record to 43-34 on the year and left them 1.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves in the National League East standings. Florida improved to 37-40 after getting its second win in a row. The Marlins, which are 21-22 at home this season, presently own fourth place in the division standings, where they are 7.5 games behind the Braves.
Mike Pelfrey will get the start for the Mets tonight as they look to draw within a half game of the division lead. Pelfrey enters tonight's game with an impressive 10-2 record in 15 starts to go along with a 2.71 ERA. The Wichita State product, who is in his fifth season with the Mets, is 4-2 on the road with a 3.76 ERA and .281 batting average against. Pelfrey has struggled in his last two road outings, though, giving up 18 hits and eight earned runs in 13 innings pitched.
Twenty-three year old Chris Volstad will counter Pelfrey for the Marlins. Volstad has not been a magic elixir for Florida of late as the Marlins are a miserable 1-8 in his last nine starts; however, the right-hander has a respectable 3.38 ERA in eight home starts. The Florida native also has a 2.70 ERA in four career starts against the Mets.
MLB Odds Betting Trend: The Mets are 3-7 straight up in their last 10 games as a road favorite versus an NL East team with a moneyline spread between 100 and 120. The Under is 7-3 in those games.
