Oakland currently has a hot hand having won three series straight taking two of three on the road from Cleveland and Baltimore and sweeping three from the Pirates in interleague play.
New York's starting pitcher for Monday's game is Javier Vazquez. The Yankees' righthander is 6-7 on the season with a 5.11 ERA. Countering for Oakland is veteran Ben Sheets. The oakland righthander has struggled in the first half this season with a 3-7 record to go with a 4.98 ERA.
Vazquez is looking for his first win since June 12, coming off a 7-0 loss to the Mariners on June 30 in which he allowed three runs in six innings. Vazquez beat the A's on April 20 in Oakland for his first win.
Sheets left with a 6-3 lead in a bizzare game at Baltimore on Wednesday, but got the no-decision after giving up four runs (three earned) over six innings in a 9-6 loss. He has completed at least six innings in each of his last 11 starts, going 2-4 with a 4.04 ERA.
