Erik Bedard, who the Mariners acquired from Baltimore prior to last season, will start this evening against his former team. Bedard has not pitched since June 7th as he has been on the 15 day DL with shoulder issues. In his 11 starts this year though, he is 5-2 with a 2.47 ERA. Over the past two seasons, the 30 year old Canadian is 6-4 at Safeco Field with a 2.20 ERA. The Mariners have won four of the southpaws last five outings.
The Orioles continued their horrific road play last night, suffering a one hit shutout at the hands of the Mariners Jarrod Washburn. The loss dropped Baltimore to 36-47 overall and 12-27 away from Camden Yards. They have now lost three games in a row and have a firm hold on last place in the American League's East division, sitting 6.5 games back of the fourth place 43-41 Rays.
Jeremy Guthrie will be charged with getting his team back in the win column tonight as he makes his 18 start of the season. Guthrie has not been sharp thus far, going 6-8 with a 5.20 ERA. The tale of the tape has been even more grim for the five year righty on the road. The 30 year old Guthrie is 2-4 in seven road starts with a 6.86 ERA. The Orioles are just 2-5 when the Stanford grad toes the rubber in opposing venues.
This evening's AL East versus AL West matchup is set to begin at 10:10pm ET at Safeco Field.
