White Sox vs Royals Free Baseball Prediction

by Thomas Jensen on Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

The Chicago White Sox are desperately trying to fend off Minnesota in the American League Central, and they will try to build on their slim lead when they visit the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium to begin a three-game series. BetOnline.com has the Chicago White Sox -130 odds baseball prediction against the Kansas City Royals +110 odds with the total listed at 9.5 runs.

Jose Contreras (7-6, 4.02) earned a no-decision in a 6-5 extra-inning win at home over Cleveland, as he allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits over six innings of work. Contreras, a six-year veteran at the age of 36, struggled with some control issues as he struck out six, but he also walked four. Contreras has now allowed eight homers in his last four starts, and he has given up 24 runs in his last five outings. The big righthander has already beaten the Royals this season, scattering a run on four hits over seven strong innings in a 6-2 win at home, which was his last quality start.

Kyle Davies (3-1, 4.71) has cooled off since allowing a single run in each of his first four starts, and he was fortunate to earn a no-decision in a 10-7 victory at Baltimore. The 24-year-old righthander lasted just four innings, and he was tagged for seven runs on eight hits while giving up a pair of homers for the first time all season. Davies was bailed out by a resurgent Kansas City offense for the second time in three starts,     but the fourth-year pitcher can still hold his head high going into the All-Star Break. Davies joined the Royals from Atlanta last season, and he was rocked for six runs on seven hits in just 4 1/3 innings in an 11-3 loss at home to the White Sox.

The White Sox swept the Royals at home, and Kansas City would love nothing more than to return the favor. The White Sox had won eight of their last ten games heading into this match-up, while the Royals barely avoided a four-game sweep at Tampa Bay. Both pitchers have been giving up a lot of runs lately, so it could be a shootout in the Central on Tuesday. Take the Chicago White Sox to jump out early and roll to a victory.
