MLB Picks: The Marlins and Diamondbacks kickoff a three game series this evening at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. Both squads have been hot of late, but Arizona will be working to extend a five game winning streak when things get underway tonight. MLB Picks: Marlins vs Diamondbacks MLB Betting Odds - July 9, 2009 at Sportsbook.com have Florida listed as a -130 moneyline favorite in this evening's proceedings. Florida escaped San Francisco yesterday, avoiding the sweep with a 7-0 game three win. Despite losing two out of three to the Giants, the Marlins have won six of their last nine games to improve to 44-42 overall. The club's recent upswing has coincided with the Mets fall, enabling Florida to move into second place in the National League East standings. The Fish currently trail the first place Phillies by two games. Starting tonight for the Marlins is three year veteran Andrew Miller. The 24 year old Miller has been servicable in his second season in South Florida, producing a 3-4 record in 13 starts with a 4.42 ERA. However, the Gainesville native is 0-4 on the road with a 6.33 ERA. Miller faced Arizona earlier this year; he limited the D-backs to just four hits and two earned runs over seven innings in a 3-4 home loss. The Diamondbacks have had a forgettable season to this point, presently sitting at fourth place in the National League West standings with a 36-49 record. But the ball club has been on a torrid stretch of late, winning five in a row and six of their last 10. Arizona kick started their streak by stealing two out of three against the Rockies in Denver and they continued it by sweeping the Padres at Chase Field. Yusmeiro Petit has been called upon to keep the D-backs streak alive as he will take the hill tonight for Manager A.J. Hinch. Petit, who came off the DL on July 4th (shoulder), has not exactly been reliable to this point. In six starts the 24 year old Venezuelan is 0-3 with a 8.69 ERA. He has made one start since returning to the rotation, an 11-7 win at Colorado where he allowed five hits and four earned runs over three innings. The Diamondbacks are just 1-6 in the games Petit has appeared in this year. Tonight's game is scheduled to get underway at 9:40pm ET at Chase Field.
