American League West Odds & Predictions

by Reno Gold on Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

American League West Odds & Predictions: The Los Angeles Angels have won the American League's West Division three years in a row, but if they don't get their act together pretty quickly that run is going to end. This weekend the Angels get a chance to make up some ground on the team they're chasing in the West, the Texas Rangers, when they visit Arlington for a four-game showdown starting Thursday night.

American League West Odds & PredictionsThe Angels are trying to stay in the playoff picture , but its been tough lately. Los Angeles lost eight of its last 10 games going into the All-Star break, and got held to two or fewer runs in each of those losses. They did, however, take three of four games in Seattle over the weekend before heading to New York for two games with the Yankees early this week.

Los Angeles has, however, managed to go 26-18 since losing outfielder Kendry Morales to that broken foot suffered celebrating a game-winning grand slam back in late May.

Texas has led the AL West almost the entire season, but got swept four games at home by the lowly Baltimore Orioles going into the All-Star break. They then took three of four games in Boston over the weekend, and won the opener of a three-game series in Detroit on Monday night 8-6 in 10 innings.

So going into Tuesday night's action the Rangers led the Angels by five games in the AL West, and Los Angeles trailed Tampa Bay by 7.5 games in the AL Wild Card race.

As of Thursday morning Sportsbook.com was listing Texas at -1,000 to win the AL West, with the Angels getting +400. The Rangers are also getting +350 to win the AL pennant and +700 to win the World Series, while LA is getting +2,000 to take the pennant and +4,000 to win the Series.

This is only the third meeting so far this year between these two division rivals. The Rangers took two games from the Angels in Arlington back in May, while Los Angeles took two of three from Texas three weeks ago in Anaheim. And the totals went 2-2-1 in those games, which averaged just over nine runs per.

After this series these teams meet three more times this season, including a four-game series in Arlington on the final weekend of the regular season.

The totals have gone 25–22 in Rangers home games this year, which have averaged 10 RPG, fourth-most in the majors.

MLB Predictions:  So far this looks to be the year for the Texas Rangers out West. If you like sticking your neck out a bit, getting +350 odds to win the World Series could be a fun bet for all. And it has a great chance of cashing too.
