American League West rivals Texas and Los Angeles conclude their three game series this evening with a Sunday Night Baseball showcase at the Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Tonight’s finale is scheduled to get underway at 8:00pm ET; it will be broadcast live on ESPN. MLB Point Spreads have the visiting Rangers listed as a slight -115 moneyline favorite; the Over/Under is set at eight runs with the Under drawing -115 odds. The Angels are drawing +105 odds to take the series.
At 51-44 Los Angeles remains in the AL West title chase, but it has done itself no favors with its poor second half start. The Angels went 2-5 on a seven game road swing following the All-Star Game and they returned home to face Texas on Friday night. L.A. won the opener, as expected, with staff ace Jered Weaver on the hill, but it dropped last night’s game 9-2 to fall six game back of the Rangers in the division race.
The Angels will look to win the series and reduce that number to five tonight with Dan Haren taking the bump. Haren, who is coming off a stint on the DL, has not pitched since July 3rd. Prior to his landing on the Disabled List, Haren endured a horrible slump, yielding four or more earned runs in five consecutive starts. He comes into tonight’s game with a 6-8 record and 4.86 ERA as a result.
Haren, who is 2-5 in nine starts at Angel Stadium this season, has produced a 4-9 record and 4.17 ERA in 18 career starts against the Rangers.
Texas, which improved to 56-37 with last night’s win, will counter Haren with four year veteran Matt Harrison. Harrison has been brilliant all season, compiling a 12-4 record and 2.87 ERA in 18 starts, but never was he better than last Sunday at Seattle. The southpaw held the Mariners to five hits and no earned runs over nine innings in a 4-0 Texas victory. The Rangers are 9-1 in Harrison’s last 10 starts and they are 8-2 in his 10 road outings this season.
MLB Point Spreads Betting Trend: The Rangers are 9-1 in their last 10 games as a road favorite with Matt Harrison on the hill.
