In the crowded American League East, the Toronto Blue Jays have become as irrelevant as Eddie Murphy's latest movie, Meet Dave. The Blue Jays originally thought they would have to leap frog either the Boston Red Sox or the New York Yankees to put themselves in position to qualify for the postseason. As it stands now, they find themselves dead last in the East and are again looking to sell their veterans for building blocks. One of their commodities rumored to be on the trade block has been one of General Manager J.P. Ricciardi's worst signings: pitcher A.J. Burnett. Burnett has been as inconsistent as they come throughout his career and is 30-25 since signing with the Blue Jays. But Burnett has racked up 132 strikeouts already this season, which leads the American League and is on pace to set a new career high. With his value at its peak, now would be the best time to move Burnett to a contender looking to bolster their rotation. He has also has won four of his last six starts. BetOnline.com has made the Baltimore Orioles –115 odds baseball prediction favorites against the Toronto Blue Jays –105 odds with the total set at 8.5 runs. Burnett has faced the Orioles twice this season and has been lit up both times. He pitched 4.1 innings in both starts allowing 10 hits and six earned runs in his first start and 10 hits and eight earned runs in his second start. He'll match up against Jeremy Guthrie of the Orioles, who leads his starting rotation with an ERA of 3.60 and 88 strikeouts. He has also battled consistency problems recently alternating wins and losses over his last five starts. Gurthrie has started two games against the Blue Jays this season pitching a total of 14 innings in two starts. He is 1-0 in those starts and has allowed only two earned runs while striking out nine batters and walking only one. Guthrie has the benefit of pitching at home, where he has performed better of late. The Orioles have won his last four outings but are just 1-3 in his last four road starts.
