The reeling Yankees will look to end their present slide when they square off against the Mariners later tonight. The two American League rivals are scheduled to take the field in tonight’s game one battle at 10:10pm ET. MLB Point Spreads have New York listed as a -155 road favorite while the Mariners are drawing +145 odds to win their third straight game. The game total in this evening’s contest is set at 7.5 runs; the Under is favored at -120 odds.
New York’s hot post-All-Star break start (5-1) made it appear as though the Bronx Bombers would run away and hide from the rest of the AL East; however, a four game sweep at the hands of the A’s and the Orioles five game win streak have tightened the division title race some.
The Yankees still own a six game lead over Baltimore, but should their struggles continue, there are more than enough games left for the AL East scenery to change. New York will call on Hiroki Kuroda to stop the bleeding and keep its lead at six or better this evening.
Kuroda, who owns a 9-7 record and 3.46 ERA, has been up and down of late allowing zero earned runs in two of his last four starts while giving up 11 in the other two. His recent inconsistency has not mattered though, as the Yankees are 5-0 in his last five starts thanks to a 6.6 runs per game average over that span of games.
Seattle opened its second half by dropping two of three against the Rangers, but it has since won five of seven games, all of which were played on the road. The Mariners Kevin Millwood will be charged with keeping the good times rolling tonight as he makes his 19th start of the season.
Millwood comes in with a mediocre 4.15 ERA, but his record is an abysmal 3-7. The 15 year veteran is 0-2 in his last five starts and the Mariners are 0-5 in those games, losing by an average of two runs per game.
Seattle won the last meeting between these two clubs, beating New York 6-2 at Yankee Stadium on May 13th, but the Yankees have won seven of their last 10 games opposite the Mariners.
MLB Point Spreads Betting Trend: The Mariners are 3-7 in their last 10 games as a home underdog with a game total between 7.5 and 8 runs.
