Cardinals at Mets MLB Odds & Picks – July 27 2010

by Reno Gold on Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Cardinals at Mets MLB Odds & Picks: The St. Louis Cardinals, locked in a heated divisional race with Cincinnati, will try to protect or increase a one game lead in the Central Division standings when they play the New York Mets in the first of a three game set at Citi Bank Field in New York Tuesday (7:05 pm Eastern). The Cardinals will give the start to ace right-hander Adam Wainwright. The Cards Cy Young candidate is currently 14-5 on the season with a 1.94 ERA. Countering for the Mets will be left-hander Jon Niese who is 6-4 this year with a 3.54 ERA.

Cardinals at Mets MLB Odds & Picks - July 27 2010BetUS oddsmakers have the Mets lined as -125 odds favorites to win the three game series. Cardinals backers are giving -105 odds as series underdogs. For Tuesday's game, Wainwright and the Cardinals are listed by BetUS as -150 moneyline favoites with a seven run total. MEts backers are getting +130 odds as a home underdog.

Wainwright has worked 25 consecutive scoreless innings over the course of his last four starts, and that is why he is among the National League leaders in wins. He got a no-decision in his last start, however, as the Phillies won in extras.

Not quite as sharp as in recent starts, Niese needed 99 pitches to finish five innings Wednesday in Arizona, allowing three runs. And he may have some bad memories of the Cards, having torn a hamstring against them last year.

Skip Schumaker went 4-for-4 with one RBI Sunday, as the Cardinals defeated the Cubs 4-3 in 11 innings. The Cardinals won that game as -125 favorites, seven runs made it OVER the posted 6.5 total set by BetUS. Ryan Franklin tossed the win in relief for the Cardinals, while Dennys Reyes recorded the final out for his first save.

The Mets were shut out 1-0 by the Dodgers last time out, as +160 underdogs. The teams played UNDER the posted 6.5 total set by BetUS. Pedro Feliciano gave up the winning run in the eighth and was tagged with the Mets loss.

The Mets, for sure will not concede the game because Wainwright is starting for the Cardinals. But the Cards will probably win anyway. Look for the total to exceed seven runs.
