Oakland, which has won seven of 10 since the break, fell to 50-49 with the loss. While the Athletics are not out of the division race yet, these next two games against Texas are critical for the team, which presently trails Tampa Bay, Boston, Toronto, Minnesota, and Detroit in the Wild Card race.
The starters for tonight's game are Trevor Cahill and Colby Lewis. Cahill is 9-4 with a 3.15 ERA for the A's this season, but he has given up seven earned runs in his last 13.2 innings pitched for a 4.77 ERA. The right handed Lewis has produced a 9-6 record and 3.52 ERA in 19 starts this year. Lewis gave up nine hits and four earned runs over seven innings in his last appearance, a 1-4 loss at Detroit.
