MLB Odds Braves vs Nationals MLB Picks – July 28th, 2010: National League East rivals Atlanta and Washington continue their three game series this evening with a game two dust up in the nation's capitol. Tonight's game is scheduled to get underway at 7:05pm ET at Nationals Park. MLB Picks at SPORTSBETTING.com have the first place Braves listed as a -145 moneyline favorite and the game total set at 7.5.
Atlanta fell for the third time in its last four games yesterday with a 3-0 loss to the Nationals. Atlanta, which was suppose to
face phenom Stephen Strasburg (late scratch due to shoulder stiffness), instead had to deal with 39 year old veteran Miguel Batista. Bobby Cox crew may have been better off against the rookie as Batista allowed just three hits and no earned runs in five innings of work. The Braves finished the night with five hits and 10 strikeouts.
The setback brought the team's record to 57-42 and put the surging Phillies within 3.5 games of a first place tie.
Tim Hudson will attempt to keep Philadelphia at arm's length as he takes the hill tonight for the Braves. Hudson, a veteran of 11 years, comes into this evening's divisional battle with a 10-5 record and 2.47 ERA in 20 starts. The 35 year old Georgia native rebounded from a horrendous outing against Milwaukee on the 17th (six earned runs allowed over 6.2 innings) with lights out performance versus the Padres last Thursday. Hudson gave up just four hits and no earned runs in an 8-0 Atlanta victory against the NL West's best team.
The Nationals improved to 43-57 with last night's win, which was just their fourth since the All-Star Break. Washington still remains firmly entrenched in the East cellar, though, at 14.5 games behind the Braves and seven games back of the fourth place Marlins.
The Nats will counter one aging hurler with another as Livan Hernandez takes the ball for a 21st time this season. Hernandez' performance this season has been a major surprise with the 35 year old posting a 7-6 record and 3.12 ERA. The Cuban righty has been particularly hard on opposing batters of late, allowing just two earned runs in his last 15 innings pitched (11 strikeouts).
MLB Picks Betting Trend: Tim Hudson's team is 9-1 in his last 10 starts as a road favorite with a total between 7.5 and 8.
