Red Sox at Angels MLB Odds & Picks: The Los Angeles Angels look to avoid the bad side of an embarrassing three game sweep at home to the Boston Red Sox when the two clubs conclude their series at Anaheim Stadium, Wednesday afternoon (3:35 pm Eastern). LA will send Joel Pineiro (10-7, 4.18 ERA) to the mound, whose seven-game win streak was snapped last time out. Countering for the Red Sox is the veteran Josh Beckett. The Red Sox right-hander is 1-1 on the season with a 6.66 ERA.
Beckett was sharp in his return from the disabled list at Seattle, giving up five hits and a run over 5 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out five. Beckett is 1-0 with a 5.60 ERA on the road this season. Opponents are hitting .297 against him.
Pineiro's seven-game win streak is history after he left too many pitches in the hitting zone against the Yankees. It was a rare substandard performance by the veteran with the deep bag of tricks. His sinker sets up a curveball and change that also are effective.
In Tuesdays game, Angels starter Jered Weaver was solid, but John Lackey was a little better, as the former Angels ace allowed two runs over 7 1/3 innings to emerge victorious in his first start at Angel Stadium since leaving via free agency. Bobby Abreu homered and knocked in two for the Angels, but their offense managed little else against Lackey.
The Red Sox cashed as +150 moneyline winners versus the Angels on Tuesday. The six combined runs fell UNDER the posted 7 1/2 total.
MLB Picks: Take the Angels and Pineiro in this game. We are a little surprised today's game is lined as it is. The run line, with LA giving -185 (+1 1/2) also looks solid.
