The Angels will look to take their three game set with Tampa Bay tonight as the two clubs meet in a game two contest at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. This evening’s AL East versus AL West skirmish between the Rays and Angels is scheduled to get underway at 9:05pm ET. MLB Point Spreads have Los Angeles drawing -164 odds in the home favorite role while the Rays are a +149 road under dog. Tonight’s game total is set at seven runs; the Over is favored at -125 odds.
The red hot Angels drew one step closer to the AL West lead last night, knocking off Tampa Bay 3-1 to improve to 55-45 overall. Los Angeles, a winner in five of its last seven games, closed to within four games of the division leading Rangers who fell at home to the White Sox.
The Angels, who acquired former Cy Young winner Zack Greinke from Milwaukee earlier this week, will attempt to take its third consecutive series with Veteran C.J. Wilson toeing the rubber. Wilson, who is 9-6 with a 2.89 ERA, got a no-decision his last time out after holding the Royals to nine hits and three earned runs over 6.2 innings. The Angels eventually won the game, though, topping KC 6-3 in Anaheim. The victory snapped a string of three straight L.A. losses with Wilson on the hill. Prior to that three game slide, Wilson and the Angels were on an 8-0 tear together.
Tampa Bay, which at 51-49 remains 9.5 games out of first in the AL East, will look to bounce back from last night’s disappointment by giving lefty Matt Moore the ball. Moore has experienced a few rough outing this season, but he is usually a steady to modest performer for the Rays as his 4.23 ERA would indicate. The second year pro is coming off an outstanding outing, though, one in which he allowed just five hits and two earned runs while striking out seven over eight innings. Still, he took the loss as the Rays fell 1-2 at home against the Mariners.
Moore has not turned in his best work on the road; he comes into tonight’s start with a 5.36 road ERA and he is 1-3 in seven away starts this season. Moore held the Angels to five hits and two earned runs over 5.2 innings in a 4-3 win over Los Angeles on April 26th at Tropicana Field; that game marked his first and only career appearance against L.A.
MLB Point Spreads Betting Trend: The Under is 8-2 in the Angels last 10 games as a home favorite versus a lefty with a moneyline spread between 160 and 180.
