After losing two of three to the New York Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies bounced back by winning two of three games from the Atlanta Braves over the weekend. They are still just a game behind the Mets for first place in the National League East but have been struggling of late. The Phillies are 8-10 in their last 18 contests. BetOnline.com has the Philadelphia Phillies –155 odds baseball prediction favorites over the Washington Nationals +135 odds with the over/under set at 9.5 runs +100 reduced juice.

They head to Washington for a three-game series starting Tuesday and playing the Nationals is one of the easiest ways to make up ground. The Phillies have won two of the three meetings in Washington this year.

The Phillies will send Brett Myers to the mound, who didn't fare so well in his first road start since returning from a minor league stint. Myers allowed three earned runs in five innings pitched and struggled with his control, allowing five walks and only two strikeouts. The Phillies have now lost 12 of his last 13 starts this season.

Believe it or not, though, Myers actually made some progress in his last start. On the year, Myers road ERA was 8.21 but has now dropped to 7.91 after that start. He also didn't allow a home run for the first time in five starts. Myers had given up 13 home runs in the previous 47.1 road innings pitched, which is roughly more than one home run per start.

Myers has started twice against the Nationals this year and has compiled an 0-1 record with an ERA of 4.91 in two starts. He's pitched only 11 innings in those two outing and the Nats are hitting .302 against him this year.

Myers will faceoff with Collin Balester, who is making his fifth career start. Balester has been batted around in his last three starts and is trouble keeping runners off base.

Balester has allowed 26 walks and hits combined over his last 15.1 innings pitched, which has led to 12 earned runs (7.15 ERA) in those innings. The Nationals have lost his last three starts.
