MLB Betting Odds: The Giants will go for the sweep of the Pirates this afternoon at AT&T Park in San Francisco. San Fran assured themselves of a series win last night, getting the better of Pittsburgh by a score of 3-2. Bodog.com has the Giants listed as a -165 moneyline favorite today in their MLB Picks: Pirates vs Giants MLB Betting Odds – July 29, 2009.
San Francisco caught back up to the Rockies last night, moving into a second place tie with Colorado in the National League West. The two division rivals are also presently tied for the wild card spot in the National League. The back-to-back wins against the Pirates brought the Giants record to 54-46 and left them eight games behind the Dodgers in the division race.
San Francisco will look to All-Star pitcher Matt Cain this afternoon to put the final load of dirt on the Pittsburgh coffin. Cain has been amazing this season, going 12-2 in 20 starts with a 2.27 ERA. The Alabama native has been almost untouchable at AT&T Park this year as well. In 10 starts at the facility Cain is 6-1 with a 2.26 ERA; the Giants are 9-1 in those outings.
Cain faced the Pirates on July 19 at PNC Park, recording a 4-3 win. The 24 year old righty gave up just five hits and one earned run over seven innings.
Pittsburgh fell to 43-57 with last night's loss, in the process dropping a sizeable 10.5 games behind the first place Cardinals in the NL Central race. The slip up was the Pirates fourth in a row and seventh in their last 10 games.
Thankfully for Pittsburgh fans, the team will conclude a seven game road swing with today's contest. The Bucs are a dismal 17-38 away from PNC Park this year. They are just 1-9 in their last 10 road affairs.
Zach Duke will attempt to send the Pirates home in victorious fashion as he takes the mound for Pittsburgh today. Duke is 9-9 this year in 20 starts with a 3.42 ERA, but he has struggled some of late, giving up at least three earned in his last five starts. The Pirates are just 1-4 in that stretch, which includes the 4-3 home loss to Cain and the Giants.
The first pitch in today's series finale is scheduled for 3:45pm ET at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California.
