by Alexander Banks on Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

MLB Predictions Preview … The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to keep pace in the NL West Division standings only a single game behind the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dodgers will play the San Francisco Giants tonight in the rubber game of the three-game series between old NL rivals. Starting for the Dodgers will be righthander Chad Billingsley (10-9, 3.25 ERA). Countering for the Giants will be lefty Jonathan Sanchez (8-6, 4.46 ERA).

MLB Predictions Betting Line …Online oddsmakers at SBGglobal.com have the Dodgers listed as -185 money line favorites in this game with a 7-run total. Giants backers are getting +165 money line odds for the game.

Billingsley provided a much-needed quality start for his club on Friday, surrendering just two runs on five hits and three walks, while notching four strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings against the Nationals. In the process, he improved his record to 10-9.

In the second inning of his last start, Sanchez allowed more runs (five) than he previously surrendered in any game since June 12. Following a quick first frame, the lefty walked two, gave up a single and three doubles in the second. He was pulled in the third after throwing 81 pitches (46 strikes). Sanchez's breaking ball wasn't breaking, and, alas, he tallied just two strikeouts.

Jason Johnson tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win, as the Dodgers defeated the Giants 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Los Angeles cashed as -130 home favorites as the teams played under the 7.5-run total listed by oddsmakers.

James Loney went 2-for-4 with a run batted in for the Dodgers, while Jonathan Broxton picked up his fifth save of the season for Los Angeles.

Losing pitcher Matt Cain gave up one earned run over seven innings for San Francisco, which got two hits apiece from Randy Winn and Rich Aurilia in the loss.

MLB Game Prediction…Dodgers -185 ML
