MLB Picks: The Mariners and Rangers resume their four game series tonight as they prepare to face each other in game two at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Texas got a 7-1 win last night to put them three games back of the Angels in the American League West standings. BetUS.com is looking for another Ranger win tonight as Texas is listed as a -170 moneyline favorite in the bookmaker's MLB Picks: Mariners vs Rangers MLB Betting Odds – July 31, 2009.
Texas smashed its way to an easy win last night, hitting four home runs, including two from All-Star infielder Michael Young. The Rangers might have saved the power for another day, though, as starting pitcher Derek Holland totally stymied the Seattle offense. Holland gave up just two hits and one earned runs over 8.2 innings.
The victory improved Texas to 57-43 overall and brought their home record to 35-20.
Thirty-one year old Vincente Padilla has been tabbed to start tonight for Texas. Padilla is 7-5 in 16 starts with a 4.67 ERA. He has struggled most at home, going 3-4 in nine starts at Rangers Ballpark with a 6.00 ERA.
Padilla, in spite of his woes, pitched a gem earlier this year against the Mariners, allowing just one hit and no earned runs over eight innings in a 7-2 Texas win at Seattle.
Seattle, which is 53-49, will counter Padilla with 26 year old lefty Jason Vargas. Vargas is 3-4 in 12 starts with a 4.39 ERA. His road appearances have been his biggest buggaboo, as he is 1-3 away from Safeco Field with a 6.25 ERA.
This evening's division clash is scheduled to get underway at 8:05pm ET in Texas.
