He has pitched just 10.2 innings, giving up 17 hits and seven earned runs, but the Yankees are 2-0 despite his numbers. Mitre is making his first road start of the season this evening.
The White Sox closed to within 2.5 games of the Tigers with last night's win. They improved to 52-51 on the season and 28-23 at home after last night's brillant effort from starter Gavin Floyd. Floyd gave up four hits and one earned run over 7.2 innings while striking out 10.
Left-hander Clayton Richard takes the ball tonight for skipper Ozzie Guillen. Richard is 4-3 in 14 starts with a 4.73 ERA, but he has been outstanding in his last two outings. The 25 year old Indiana native has worked 16 innings, giving up nine hits and two earned runs to help the Sox go 1-1.
Richard has made 12 appearances at U.S. Cellular this year; he has a 5.60 ERA there and opponents are hitting .281 against him at his home park.
