Detroit and Boston are slated for game two of their three game set as the two squads square off at historic Fenway Park this evening. First pitch in tonight’s contest is scheduled for 7:10pm ET. The latest MLB Point Spreads have the visiting Tigers, a 7-3 loser last night, listed as a -135 moneyline favorite; the Over/Under is set at eight runs. The Red Sox are getting +115 odds to win this evening’s AL East versus AL Central clash.
Detroit cruised into the All-Star and it surged coming out of it, winning eight of its first 10 second half games; however, the Tigers current road swing, a nine game trip that started in Cleveland, has derailed the team’s momentum. Last night’s series opening loss to the Red Sox served as Detroit fifth setback in its last seven games, leaving the team 1.5 games back of the first place White Sox in the AL Central standings.
Justin Verlander gets the call tonight as the Tigers look to right their course before heading home on Friday. Verlander is coming off an ugly showing at Cleveland as he gave up nine hits and five earned runs over seven innings in a 3-5 loss to the Tribe. Despite the poor outing, Verlander still owns an 11-4 record, 2.60 ERA, and 0.95 WHIP for the season, putting him in contention for another Cy Young award.
Boston comes into tonight’s game with a 52-51 record and it has bounced back from a 1-6 stretch between July 20th and 27th by winning its last three games. Josh Beckett, the focus of numerous trade rumors, will look to keep the Red Sox win streak intact tonight as he makes his 18th start of the season. Beckett is having anything but a banner season, producing a 5-9 record and 4.57 ERA in his 17 appearances, and his inconsistency is reflected in Boston’s record in his starts. The Red Sox are 1-7 in Beckett’s last eight outings and they are 3-6 in his nine starts at Fenway Park.
MLB Point Spreads Betting Trend: The Tigers are 1-9 in their last 10 games as a road favorite with a moneyline spread between 120 and 140.
