Los Angeles suffered their worst losing streak of the season last week, falling at home to the Marlins and then dropping three straight at St. Louis. The Dodgers, despite the 3-4 road trip, are still seven games ahead of the Giants and Rockies in the NL West with a 65-40 record.
Young southpaw Clayton Kershaw will attempt to get his ninth win of the season tonight while garnering the Dodgers their 35th home victory. Kershaw has been better than great over his last nine starts, giving up an astonishing 34 hits and five earned runs in 56.2 innings pitched for a 0.80 ERA. The Dodgers are 7-2 in that span and 7-4 when the 21 year old starts at Dodger Stadium.
The Brewers are 7-10 since the All-Star break after losing two out of three in San Diego over the weekend. Milwaukee's pedestrian play has them sitting at 52-53 and 4.5 games back of the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central.
Manny Parra, the 26 year old left-hander from Carmichael, California, gets the start this evening for the Brew Crew. Parra is 5-8 in 17 starts with a 6.50 ERA. In 88.2 innings pitched, Parra has given up 110 hits and 64 earned runs. Milwaukee is 3-6 in the southpaw's nine road outings and they have won just two of his last nine appearances.
