MLB Picks: The Red Sox and Rays wrap up their two game set this evening at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. Tampa Bay won last night in 13 innings to draw within three games of Boston in American League East standings. Boston's record dropped to 62-43 last night after Evan Longoria broke up a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 13th inning with a two run blast off of Takashi Saito. The loss snapped a four game win streak for Terry Francona's squad, leaving them 1.5 games back of the first place Yankees who won 5-3 at Toronto. Brad Penny gets the start tonight for Boston, it will be his 21st of the season and third against the Rays this year. Penny is 7-5 with a 5.07 ERA overall, but his road record is 2-3 in nine starts with a 5.51 ERA (.299 opponent batting average). Boston is 1-1 in his two outings against Tampa as the nine year veteran has given up 14 hits and six earned runs in 12.1 innings pitched. The Red Sox are a pathetic 1-5 in the right-handed Penny's last six appearances. Tampa Bay improved to 59-48 with last night's dramatic walk-off shot. The win was their second in a row and fourth in their last five games. The Rays home record was also bolstered to a fantastic 35-18 thanks to Longoria's heroics. Young left-hander David Price gets the call tonight from Rays skipper Joe Maddon. Price has struggled somewhat since being called up and inserted into the rotation, going 4-4 in 12 starts with a 5.10 ERA. However, he has shown flahes of the ability that generated so much buzz over the off-season. Most of those flashes have occurred at the Trop where Price is 4-1 in six starts with a 2.67 ERA. Tampa Bay is 5-1 in the 23 year old's six home appearances. Tonight's contest is scheduled for a 7:08pm ET start at Tropicana Field. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
