The Los Angeles Angels and Chicago White Sox will square off in a game three rubber match this afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field. The series finale between the two American League squads is scheduled to get underway at 2:10pm ET; the game will be broadcast live on TBS. MLB Point Spreads at offshore bookmaker SBG Global have the hosting White Sox listed as a slight -108 moneyline favorite. Today’s game total is set at 10 runs; the Under is favored at -115 odds.
The Angels snapped a three game skid and gave themselves an opportunity to steal their series with the White Sox by scoring a 6-5 extra innings win last night. Los Angeles got what has become a rare quality start from veteran hurler Ervin Santana, who gave up just five hits and two earned runs over six innings, while its offense tagged Chicago’s Gavin Floyd for eight hits and five earned runs over 6 1/3 innings. Albert Pujols and Howie Kendrick starred in the win as they combined for four hits and four RBI in the one run victory.
Dan Haren will hope for the same sort of offensive support this afternoon as he makes his 20th start of the season. Haren has had an up and down campaign thus far, compiling an 8-8 record and 4.59 ERA; however, his last two appearances were both impressive. The 31 year old right hander allowed just eight hits and three earned runs over 12 innings in wins against the Rangers and Rays.
Haren, who is 1-1 with a 4.18 ERA in four career appearances against the White Sox, owns a 5.25 ERA and .300 batting average against in his eight road starts this season.
The White Sox, who saw their AL Central lead over the Tigers slip to 1.5 games with last night’s loss, will counter Haren with the recently acquired Francisco Liriano. Liriano, while still pitching for the Twins, got blasted for seven hits and seven earned runs by the White Sox on July 23rd, but he led Chicago to victory on the 31st, holding Minnesota to four hits and two earned runs over six innings in a 4-3 win.
Liriano, as evidenced by his 3-10 record and 5.18 ERA, has endured his share of rough outings this season, and, unfortunately for Sox fans, a number of those have come in daytime starts. The 28 year old southpaw is 1-2 with a 5.86 ERA in six day appearances this year. Liriano has also experienced little success against the Angels, piecing together a 1-4 record to go along with a lofty 7.44 ERA in seven outings opposite Los Angeles.
MLB Point Spreads Betting Trend: The Over is 10-0 in the White Sox last 10 games as a home favorite with a moneyline spread between 100 and 120 (Chicago went 2-8 in those same 10 games).
