MLB Picks: Baseball's biggest rivalry resumes this evening as the Red Sox and Yankees begin a four game set in the Bronx. The two clubs last met in early June with Boston getting a three game sweep of New York at Fenway Park. Online bookmaker Sportsbetting.com has the Yankees listed as a heavy -200 home favorite in tonight's MLB Picks: Red Sox vs Yankees MLB Betting Odds - August 6, 2009.MLB Picks: Red Sox vs Yankees MLB Betting Odds - August 6, 2009

Boston limps into Yankee Stadium tonight after suffering a two game sweep at the hands of the Rays in Tampa Bay. The back-to-back losses came on the heels of a four game win streak, taking some of the sting away, but, nonetheless, leaving the Red Sox 2.5 games back of the Yankees in the American League East.

Unfortunately for Boston, it will attempt to get back on track with veteran hurler John Smoltz on the mound. That would have been a positive in years past, but Smoltz has yet to regain his Braves' form since joining the Sox regular rotation in late June. The Michigan native is 2-4 in seven starts with a 7.12 ERA. Opponents are hitting Smoltz, who has given up 29 earned runs in 36.2 innings pitched, at a .325 clip.

The 42 year old righty was roughed up for eight hits and five earned runs by the Orioles in his last appearance, but the Red Sox managed to get just their second win in Smoltz' seven 2009 starts.

New York, which is 0-8 against Boston this year, has been one of the hottest teams in the league since the break, going 14-5 overall and 7-1 against AL East competition. The Yankees have won three in a row entering tonight's contest and are coming off a two game sweep of the Jays in Toronto. The post-All-Star surge, which includes a 9-1 home record, has Joe Girardi's squad sitting at 65-42.

Joba Chamberlain, the 23 year old Nebraska product, get his 21st start of the year tonight for New York. The big right-hander, who is 7-2 with a 3.58 ERA, was excellent in his last outing, giving up just three hits and no earned runs in eight innings of a 6-2 win at Tampa Bay.

Chamberlain is 2-2 in 11 starts at Yankee Stadium this season with a 4.37 ERA, but New York is 6-1 in his last seven starts.

Tonight's game is scheduled for a 7:05pm ET start at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.
