Twins Head To Kansas City, the Minnesota Twins had an inconspicuous start to the season but have been one of the best teams in baseball since. After April, the young Twins were just 13-14 and looking like the rebuilding project was well under way. But since then, the Twins have looked like one of the best teams in baseball. They are 50-37 since April and are making a real push to make the playoffs.
That push continues as they head to Kansas City for a three-game weekend set with the Royals. The Twins have been much better at home than on the road this season. At the Metrodome, the Twins are 39-21. Away from it, they are 24-30. One place where the Twins haven't struggled on the road is in Kansas City, where they are 5-1 so far this season.
Friday's pitching matchup will pit Kevin Slowey against Kyle Davies .
Slowey has been a key for the Twins this season, even though his 7-8 record would indicate otherwise. He started the season losing his first four contests but has been 7-4 since. The Twins have won nine of his 13 starts since losing his opening four starts.
Slowey has pitched better at home than on the road this season. At the Metrodome, his ERA is 3.71 but is nearly a full run higher on the road (4.70). Opposing batters are hitting .225 against him at home, but .271 on the road. At home, he's allowed 0.84 hits per inning and on the road that average climbs to 1.05.
Even so, the Twins are 3-1 in his last four road starts. He's faced the Royals once this season and threw a complete game at Kauffman Stadium while allowing only one run and six hits.
He'll matchup against Kyle Davies, who has been his typical mediocre self this year.
Davies has an ERA of 4.41 but has only 32 strikeouts in 63.1 innings of work. His 5-2 record indicates the Royals have been supporting him with plenty of runs.
The Royals lineup has provided an average of six runs per start in his last eight starts which has helped mask the fact that Davies has given up 27 runs in the 38.2 innings he's pitched in those starts (6.36 ERA).
The Royals are 2-4 in his last six home starts.
