The Cubs (58-51) have played nine straight on the road and are 4-5, in their last three games against the Rockies they’ve been outscored 13-22. They are 25-32 on the road where they average 3.96 runs for and 4.32 runs against. Standing at the slab tonight is lefty Tom Gorzelanny (4-1, 3.38 ERA) who won his last start with a 1.23 ERA. Gorzelanny made a great first impression in his Cubs debut. He was acquired in a five-player deal with Pittsburgh on July 30; gave up one run on three hits over 7 1/3 innings against the Reds. Gorzelanny walked one, and cut down on free passes is something he's been working on. He also helped himself with a RBI single but cautioned not to get too used to seeing him hit. The Cubs are ranked 28 in hitting, with a batting average of .253. The Cubs are averaging 4.4 runs per game this season with an OPS of .744.  In five games against the Rockies, Derek Lee leads with eight hits and a .444 batting average, while he also leads their offense with two homers, four runs and four RBI’s.

The Rockies (61-50) have won seven of their last ten games and are 6-3 in their last nine at home. They are 29-22 at home where they average 5.69 runs for and 5.00 runs against. Tossing from the mound tonight is lefty Jorge De La Rosa (9-8, 5.00 ERA) who is 2-1 in his last three starts with a 5.30 ERA. The Cubs are clearly contenders and have dangerous hitters in their lineup, but De La Rosa can take comfort and pleasure in the fact he's not facing the Phillies, who hit three home runs off him and scored seven runs in five innings on him Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. Nothing against the Cubs, but De La Rosa is 0-3 with a 9.78 ERA career against the Phils and 0-2 with a 15.12 ERA at Citizens Bank Park. He doesn't have a harrowing history, or much of any type of history, against the Cubs (1-0, 0.00 ERA in four relief appearances covering 6 1/3 innings). The Rockies are ranked 19 in hitting with a batting average of .259 and are averaging 5.0 runs per game this season with an OPS of .777. In five games against the Cubs, Todd Helton has nine hits with a .450 batting average and Clint Barnes has one homer, two runs and two RBI’s.
