Oddsmakers see Marlins as slight Road Dogs vs St Louis CardinalsThe Florida Marlins head to St Louis for a three game set with the Cardinals beginning tonight. RHP Adam Wainwright (11-9, 4.01 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Cardinals while the Marlins will counter with rookie RHP Daniel Barone (0-1, 6.23 ERA). Barone, whom will be making his third career start, was 7-0 with a 4.09 ERA at AAA Albuquerque before getting the call from the Marlins on August 10.

Wainwright, who moved to the starting rotation this year, has had his ups and downs but has still been the Cardinals most consistent pitcher since the beginning of the season. He has really come into his own over his last two starts where he has only given up two runs in 16 innings pitched. Wainwright pitched seven innings of shut-out baseball against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday and pitched a complete game in a 2-1 loss to the Dodgers on August 10th.

The Marlins will be sure to challenge the young Cardinals hurler with MVP candidate Miguel Cabrera and batting average leader (.339) Hanley Ramirez . Cabrera is among the league leaders in average (.330), RBIs (89) and home runs (29) while Ramirez is on his way to a 30-homer, 30-steal season, with 23 and 38 respectively.

Oddsmakers at online sports wagering leader SportsBetting.com, favor the Cardinals in tonight’s game with a -189 money line chalk while the Marlins are getting +179 juice as a road underdog. The total is, holding at 9.5, gets even money if it goes OVER and has a -120 price for the UNDER. The Cardinals are getting +110 money with a Run Line win while oddsmakers expect the Marlins to keep the game close with a run line price of -130.

Reno Goldberg is 15-6-0 for 71% with his MLB picks for the month of August. While this game is expected to be close, Reno thinks he has found a match-up problem creating a clear cut edge.
