Cubs at Reds MLB Odds & Picks: The Cincinnati Reds, who have taken advantage of the slumping second place St. Louis Cardinals by building a 4.0 game NL Central Division lead, head home to Cincinnati after a Western road swing to open a weekend series with the Chicago Cubs at Great American Ball Park Friday. Johnny Cueto will toe the rubber for the Reds in this game. Cueto, a right-hander, is 11-4 on the season with a 3.62 ERA. Countering for the Cubs is left-hander Tom Gorzelanny who is 7-7 this season with a 3.70 ERA.
Coming back from his seven-game suspension where he missed one start, Cueto was too strong and had control issues. He was overthrowing and hitting 96-97 mph, instead of his more effective 93-94 mph.
Gorzelanny picked up a win in his last outing, against the Braves. He's now 7-7 with a 3.82 ERA in his 19 starts. The lefty has thrown 120 pitches in back to back outings, so it will be interesting to see how durable he is.
Ryan Dempster tossed a two-hit shutout through seven innings as the Cubs defeated the Nationals 4-0 on Wednesday. The Cubs won that game as -115 favorites, while the teams played UNDER the posted 8 1/2 run total set by Bodog. Aramis Ramirez belted a two-run homer for the Cubs, and Alfonso Soriano also went deep in the win.
Joey Votto singled in the winning run in the top of the 12th inning as the Reds beat the Giants 12-11 on Wednesday. The Reds won that game as +105 underdogs, while the 23 runs sailed OVER the posted 7 1/2 total. Votto belted two homers and drove in four runs to lead the way. Francisco Cordero pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win on the hill for the Reds.
MLB Picks: Play the UNDER on the posted nine run total for this game. The Reds are considered a good play giving -178.
