MLB Predictions: One would have to dig deep into the record books to find the last time the Chicago Cubs won 100 games but that’s exactly the pace the team is currently on as the 2008 season heads toward September. With 29 games to go before the end of regular season play the Cubs have a 6-game lead in the NL Central standings over the Milwaukee Brewers. Over in the American League, just about the same can be said about the Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays. With a 15-game lead over the Texas Rangers in the AL West, the Halo’s could quit playing today and probably have enough cushion to win the division. Bodog has the Angels listed as the favorite to win the league pennant at 3/2 odds and 7/2 odds to win the World Series.

Tampa Bay, the team with baseball’s best record, doesn’t have the luxury Los Angeles has with only a slight 3.5 game lead over the Boston Red Sox in the AL East. It looks like these two teams will push each other for the division championship with the loser getting the wild card spot. Bodog lists the Boston Red Sox odds to win the AL at 5/2 slightly better than Tampa Bay at 3/1.

While on the subject of the AL East, the New York Yankees chances are fading quickly in the hunt for either the division crown or wild card. Odds on the Yankees making it to the World Series are fading at 15/1.

Speaking of a late season push; look at the battle in the AL Central with the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins. “Now you have it; now you don’t” is how things have been going with these division leaders swapping the lead almost daily. The same can be said in the NL East between the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.

With a month to go, the best race in the NL is between St. Louis and Milwaukee for the wild card spot. Both of these clubs could be dangerous in the post-season.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are beginning to show some separation from the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 3-game lead in the NL West. Neither of these teams is expected to make much noise in the post-season. Bodog lists the Diamondbacks at 7/1 odds to win the NL Pennant and 12/1 odds to win the World Series.
