MLB Predictions: In spite of an anemic .489 winning average, the Los Angeles Dodgers are only 2.5 games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks who lead the NL West. The Dodgers have a golden opportunity to win the division but they must find a way to win above the .500 level. The Dodgers hope to take advantage of the last place San Diego Padres who comes to Dodger Stadium for a three-game series beginning Labor Day evening. Dodger’s manager Joe Torre will hand the ball to future hall of famer Greg Maddux in this one. The righthander has a 4.22 ERA to go along with a 6-11 record this season. The Padres will give the ball to starter Chris Young in this one. Righthander Young is 4-4 this season with a 4.74 ERA.

Maddux gave up four runs (two earned) on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings Wednesday against the Nationals. He did not strike out a batter and walked just one. The future Hall of Famer has not provided the Dodgers with the impact they were hoping for in his first two starts, yielding 17 hits in 11 innings and compiling an ERA of 7.36. It will be interesting to see how he fares in his first outing against the Padres since they traded him to Los Angeles on Aug. 19.

Young will be activated from the disabled list before his start against the Dodgers. Young suffered a strained forearm in a start against Colorado on Aug. 10, which was just his third effort back from missing 59 games after being hit in the face with a line drive in a game in May. He threw 65 pitches in a simulated game on Tuesday and reported no pain in his forearm.

Luis Rodriguez drove in both runs as the Padres defeated the Rockies 2-1 in the rubber match on Sunday, as -150 favorites. The team's played UNDER the posted over/under (7).

Trevor Hoffman tossed the ninth inning to get the win in relief of starter Jake Peavy, who had 13 strikeouts in the contest.

The Dodgers took the rubber match of a three-game series on Sunday, as they toppled the Diamondbacks 8-1. The Dodgers won that game as +155 underdogs, while the nine runs made it OVER the posted over/under (7.5).

Andre Ethier went 2-for-5 at the plate, including a solo home run and two RBIs for the Dodgers. Derek Lowe tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits in earning the victory.
