San Francisco moved into the National League Wild Card lead 
over the weekend by sweeping Colorado at AT&T Park. The Giants and Rockies are evened up at 72-59, but San Fran has a 8-7 advantage in the season series. The two teams, which both trail the Dodgers by 5.5 games in NL West, will meet again for a three game set in the Bay Area beginning September 13th.
Left-hander Jonathan Sanchez will kick start the Giants six game road swing tonight, taking the hill against the Phillies for the second time this season. Sanchez enters this evening's tilt with a 6-10 record to go along with a 4.27 ERA in 22 starts. Sanchez' road record is an abysmal 2-8 in 12 starts with a 4.81 ERA. However, the 26 year old is 1-0 against Philly this year, getting a 7-2 win in late July after yielding three hits and two earned runs over 5.2 innings.
Philadelphia improved to 75-53 over the weekend after winning two out three against NL East rival Atlanta. The series win brought the Phillies home record to 34-30 and left them with a 7.5 game lead over the Braves in the division standings.
Cole Hamels will attempt to subdue the red hot Giants this evening as he gets the starting call from Manager Charlie Manuel. The 25 year old southpaw has had a down season, going 7-8 in 25 starts with a 4.52 ERA. Hamels does have a stellar 33 walks to 126 strikeouts, but teams are hitting .283 against him this year. The three year veteran has also struggled at home, posting a 4-3 record in 12 starts at Citizens Bank Park with a 4.13 ERA.
Tonight's series opener is schedueld to get underway at 7:05pm ET in Philadelphia.
