MLB Predictions: Milwaukee Brewers vs New York Mets

by Alexander Banks on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

MLB Predictions: Milwaukee Brewers vs New York MetsMLB Predictions …The New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers are not only battling in their own respective NL divisions but are also competitors in the NL Wild Card race. If the season were to end today, the Mets would be the NL East winner and the Brewers the wild card team. However, if the Mets fail to hang onto its division lead over the Philadelphia Phillies, they would fall below the Brewers in the wild card standings. So winning is ever so important to both teams as they go head to head in this series.  The Brewers will pin their hopes for today’s game on Manny Para. The lefthander is 10-6 with a 4.00 ERA on the year. The Mets will pin their hopes on prospect Jonathan Niese. The lefthander was brought up from the minors to replace John Maine who is on the disabled list.

MLB Predictions Betting Line…Oddsmakers at online sportsbook SBGglobal.com have installed the Brewers as -153 money line favorites with a 9 ½ betting total. Mets backers are getting +133 odds as a road underdog.

Parra's six quality innings last week in St. Louis went for naught, as the Brewers' bullpen gave up four runs in the eighth inning. He's been just as consistent as all of the Brewers' other starters this year and has made many forget that this is only his second year in the big leagues. This will be the second start of Parra's career against the Mets.

Niese posted an 11-8 record and a 3.13 ERA between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A New Orleans this season and after joining the Zephyrs, he lost only once in seven starts. Technically, Niese will be starting on short rest, having pitched on Friday night in New Orleans. But he threw only 65 pitches in that outing, meaning he should be fresh for his Major League debut.

Carlos Delgado went 2-for-4 with a two-run dinger to lead the Mets past the Brewers 4-2 on Monday. New York cashed as -130 road favorites as the game played under the 7-run total listed by sportsbooks.

Winning pitcher Johan Santana allowed two runs over six innings for the Mets, who got a run batted in from Ryan Church in the payday. Ryan Braun was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Milwaukee, while Eric Gagne took the loss in relief of starter Ben Sheets for the Brewers.

MLB Prediction …Brewers should have their way against Mets rookie pitcher Niese. Brewers ML -153.
