 Jeremy Guthrie (10-11) will get the start for Baltimore. His record is underwhelming, but demonstrates why a pure focus on win-loss records can be deceiving. The right-hander has pitched well this season, posting a 3.57 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. He’s suffered a lot of bad luck in that department, though it keeps betting on baseball exciting. Currently the oddsmakers at BetOnline.com have Baltimore listed with +145 odds against the -165 Boston Red Sox heading into this MLB matchup. Boston has to be one of Guthrie’s favorite opponents. In eight career appearances (seven starts), he’s racked up a 1-2 record with a 3.43 ERA. His numbers aren’t as gleaming this season (4.13 ERA in four starts) but that’s because of one bad game. In four career starts, Matsuzaka is 2-1 with a 4.79 ERA against the Orioles. Boston’s offense is among the American League’s best. Jason Bay has excelled since arriving in exchange for Manny Ramirez, racking up a .313 average and 29 RBIs through his first 29 games.
