After Monday’s win over the Brewers, the Reds had won nine of their last 10 games while the Brewers had lost six of their last 10. The Brew Crew will try to right the ship as their Cy Young candidate, C.C. Sabathia, takes the mound on Wednesday in a matchup against Bronson Arroyo. Arroyo has had his typically up and down season and right now he’s up. Outside of one rough start in August in which he allowed five earned runs in 6.1 innings pitched, Arroyo’s given up only 13 earned runs in his last 47.2 innings pitched (2.48 ERA). He’s done a much better job with limiting home runs, which has been the big difference. He gave up 23 home runs in his first 125.1 innings pitched but has given up just two in his last 47.2 innings. He’ll face Sabathia, who is now the National League frontrunner for the Cy Young Award after Brandon Webb’s recent struggles. The Brewers are 11-1 in the 12 starts that Sabathia has started for them since they acquired him and he’s averaged nearly eight innings per start. Sabathia has been unhittable since the start of August. He’s allowed just seven earned runs in his last 55.1 innings pitched, which puts his ERA at 1.14. He’s started twice against the Reds and they’ve registered just two runs in his 17 innings pitched (1.06 ERA) and struck out 20 batters and walked just three.
