Free MLB Picks: Marlins at Braves MLB Odds – September 29, 2009

by Reno Gold on Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Free MLB Picks: If you are an Atlanta Braves fan, you're probably pretty nervous right now. With six games left to play in the regular season, the Braves sit four games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League race and two games behind Colorado in the Wild Card hunt. You're team has won seven games in a row and eight of its last 10 but that's not enough. You're team must keep winning and hope for some luck from the competition. Today (7 pm ET) the Braves will play the Florida Marlins in the second of a three games set. Getting a win against the Marlins might be difficult as ace Josh Johnson gets the call to start this game. Johnson is 15-5 on the year with a 3.12 ERA. Countering for Atlanta is Tim Hudson. The Braves veteran righthander is 2-1 with a 3.56 ERA since coming off the disabled list.

NOTE: Now it seems there is some doubt if Johnson will be today's starter for the Marlins so betting odds are currently OFF the board. Bodog.com will update betting odds the moment Florida announces a starter for today's game.

Johnson was scratched from his start on Sunday against the Mets due to a flu. The right-hander was examined on Monday and cleared to pitch. He has 199 1/3 innings and is on the brink of his first 200-innings season. His 15 wins already are a personal high.

Hudson will be looking for his second straight victory in this start. He gave up two earned runs in six innings in a victory over the Mets in his most recent outing. He's been pitching well since re-joining the rotation on Sept. 1, giving the Braves an even better rotation. The Braves need another good outing by Hudson and all of their other starters to keep their Wild Card hopes alive.

Jair Jurrjens tossed seven scoreless innings to get the victory, as the Braves shut out the Marlins 4-0 on Monday night. Atlanta won as -175 home favorites, while the teams played UNDER the 8-run total listed by oddsmakers. Chipper Jones homered for the Braves, as Nate McLouth, Brian McCann, and Garret Anderson all drove in runs for Atlanta.

Chris Coghlan and John Baker were both 2-for-4 for Florida, while losing pitcher Anibal Sanchez gave up three runs over five innings for the Marlins.

Free MLB Picks: The Braves are red hot. Got to go with Atlanta ML (when posted) regardless of Florida's starter.
