Free MLB Picks: Twins at Tigers MLB Odds – October 1, 2009

by Reno Gold on Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Free MLB Picks – Twins at Tigers MLB Odds: With a win today the Detroit Tigers will clinch the American League Central Division championship. If Detroit loses to the Minnesota Twins, the division lead will still be two games over Minnesota but risk the chance of losing out – especially if the Twins win out with three games remaining in the regular season. The bottom line – Detroit needs to take care of business versus the Twins today. Getting the start for the Tigers is veteran Nate Robertson. The left-hander is 2-2 on the season with a 5.56 ERA. Countering for the Twins is right-hander Scott Baker. The Twins ace righthander is 14-9 with a 4.48 ERA.

MLB picks oddsmakers list the Twins, on the arm of Baker, as -120 favorite versus Detroit with a 9 run total. Tigers backers are getting EVEN (+100) moneyline odds.

Which Robertson will show up in his final start of the regular season? Is it the veteran left-hander who used a biting slider and solid fastball to hold the Twins to two runs on five hits over five innings at the Metrodome two starts ago? Or is it the one with a flat slider and inconsistent command who struggled to five runs, four earned, on six hits in 3 1/3 innings last time out on Saturday at Chicago before the Tigers came back? How well Robertson commands his arsenal in the series finale could determine whether the AL Central remains a race into the season's final weekend.

The tests only get tougher for Baker, who will be the final pitcher in the Twins' critical four-game series with the Tigers. He's 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in three starts vs. Detroit this season.

The Tigers scored four runs in the second inning and went on to defeat the Twins 7-2 on Wednesday, as a -110 pick'em. That game's nine runs went as a PUSH against the posted over/under (9).

Magglio Ordonez went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs for the Tigers. Eddie Bonine earned the win, pitching five complete innings. Delmon Young had two hits and one RBI for the Twins. Carl Pavano surrendered seven runs over 4 2-3 innings in the loss.

Free MLB Picks: Minnesota is the play for Thursday. (Twins -120).
