Now that Major League Baseball is down to its final-four teams of the 2008 post-season, oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bodog (Bodoglife.com) have put their heads together and come up with a group of pre-league championship odds. And the favorite to win the 2008 World Series is? The American League wild card representative Boston Red Sox at 2/1 odds. Of course to accomplish that feat, the Red Sox must go through the Tampa Bay Rays, the AL Eastern Division winners and who ever emerges from the National League. If there is any theory as to why the Red Sox are the favorite to win it all it has to be about experience. No team has been to the World Series more in this 21st Century than the Boston Red Sox. If the Boston can pull it off it will be the third World Series championship this decade.
Naturally the Red Sox as World Series favorites are also favored to win the best-of-seven games American League Championship Series that begins on Friday, Oct. 10. The Sox are installed at Bodog as -135 favorites to defeat Tampa Bay. Those wishing to pound their bets on the Rays are getting a nice +123 series betting line.
Currently there are no odds available for Friday’s Game-1 of the NLCS between the Red Sox and Rays.
Over on the senior circuit, the Phillies are slight -115 favorites to win the NLCS with the Dodgers. The money line price on Los Angeles winning the series is at -105.
An interesting twist in MLB post-season betting is the Los Angeles Dodgers, while slight underdogs to the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS, are favored better than the Phillies 5/2 to 7/2 odds to win the World Series.
