Free MLB Picks – Cardinals at Dodgers Game 2 NLDS 2009: The St. Louis Cardinals, credited of having the best one-two punch, in terms of starting pitching, in the National League will look for better results in Game 2 (6:07 pm ET) of the National League Divisional Series after losing with ace Chris Carpenter in Game 1. St. Louis, installed at BetUS.com as -150 moneyline favorites to win the series, dropped Game 1 by the score of 5-3. Jeff Weaver was credited with the win for Los Angeles. Getting the call for Thursday's game for the Cardinals will be 2009 Cy Young Award candidate Adam Wainwright. The Cardinals right-hander went 19-8 on the year with a 2.63 ERA. Countering for the Dodgers is Clayton Kershaw. The Dodger lefty owned an 8-8 regular season record with a 2.79 ERA.
Wainwright, the likely National League Cy Young Award winner, will rely on his experience as well as his arm. He's a proven October performer, having closed out all three series in the Cards' run to the 2006 World Series championship.
The 21-year-old Kershaw turned in one of his more impressive outings of the season during Saturday's NL West clincher against the Rockies. Kershaw struck out the first five batters he faced and K'd seven the first time through the Rockies' batting order. In all, he finished with 10 strikeouts and pitched six scoreless innings in his final start of the year. Kershaw started two games against the Cardinals this season, one was great and one was bad. On July 29, Kershaw threw eight scoreless innings and struck out seven but earned a no-decision. On Aug. 19 he gave up two runs and walked four in only 3 2/3 innings.
Free MLB Picks: In spite of their game 1 loss, the Cardinals are the best pick with Wainwright (-110 ml).
