MLB Picks: Red Sox vs Angels Game 2 ALDS 2009: The Los Angeles Angels will look to take a two game lead over their playoff nemesis Boston this evening as the two clubs meet at 9:37pm ET at Angel Stadium of Anaheim (TBS). The Angels exercised a demon and exacted a little revenge last night, spanking the Red Sox 5-0 in game one of the 2009 ALDS. MLB Picks at SBGglobal.com have Mike Scioscia's squad listed as an ever so slight -111 moneyline favorite in this evening's playoff battle.

Los Angeles had just seven hits in last night's win, but they made the most of them, particularly Torii Hunter who uncorked MLB Picks: Red Sox vs Angels Game 2 ALDS 2009a three-run bomb off of Jon Lester in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hunter finished the night 1-for-2 with one run scored, one walk, and three RBI. Angels starter John Lackey took care of the rest as he befuddled the Red Sox for 7.2 innings. Lackey allowed just four hits and he did not give up a single earned run in the dazzling performance.

Lester had a servicable outing for Terry Francona, but his mistake to Hunter saddled him with four hits and three earned. Reliever Ramon Ramierez was charged with the other two runs after he failed to record an out in relief of Lester.

The Red Sox will attempt to even things up with post-season wizard Josh Beckett on the hill tonight. Beckett has had a somewhat up and down 2009 campaign, but his closing numbers were impressive as he finished the year with a 17-6 record and 3.86 ERA. However, his performances away from Fenway produced a pedestrian 7-5 record (16 starts) to go along with a 4.13 ERA.

Beckett is 7-2 in 13 career post-season appearances with a 3.65 ERA. Tonight will be his second playoff start against the Angels; he faced LA in last year's ALDS and took the loss at Fenway after he gave up nine hits and four earned runs over five innings.

Scioscia has called on Jered Weaver to get the start tonight, and that would seem like a good decision considering the kind of season the 27 year old has put together. Weaver closed out the year with a 16-8 record and a 3.75 ERA in 33 starts. And, while those numbers are commendable, the right-hander's accomplishments at Angel Stadium were superior. In 17 home starts, Weaver posted a 9-3 record (LAA 12-5) and a 2.90 ERA.

Weaver made two starts against Boston this year, but he was the pitcher of record in just one of those outings, getting the win in a 6-3 Angels victory way back on April 10th. He worked seven innings, giving up four hits and one earned run in a 3-4 loss to the Red Sox on May 12th.

MLB Picks Betting Trend: Boston is 6-18 over the last three seasons as an away underdog in the second game of a series coming off a loss.
