Anything that has happened prior to today's World Series Game 1 in the Boston Red Sox and Colorado Rockies seasons you can forget about. The World Series is a seven-game season of its own and can be difficult to predict. Any team that makes it through a 162 game regular season schedule and two playoff rounds has good pitching, good hitting and plays good defense. If they didn’t they would be watching the World Series on television like the rest of us.
While the World Series might be difficult to predict, nobody said it’s impossible to predict. Oddsmakers at online sports wagering giant Bodog (Bodoglife.com) think they have a good handle on it installing the Red Sox a -220 money line favorite in game one with an 8 ½ run total.

Boston has a clear edge for game 1 and that edge has a name…Josh Beckett. The big right hander is clearly the best big game pitcher in baseball plus the World Series pressure is not new to him. In fact, he thrives on it and owns a career postseason ERA of 1.78 to back it up. Beckett was named MVP for the 2003 World Series as a member of the Florida Marlins and most recently won the 2007 ALCS MVP award with the Red Sox
Beckett finished the regular season with a 20-7 record and a 3.27 ERA. He is the only 20 game winner in the 2007 season.
Taking the ball for Colorado in game 1 is left handed pitcher Jeff Francis (17-9). His 17 wins was fourth best in the National League and his .654 winning percentage was sixth best in the league. He finished the season with a respectable 4.22 ERA.
Colorado has enjoyed an 8-day layoff since winning the NL pennant and nobody will know if the extra rest will cool the team’s hot streak. The Rockies come into the World Series having won 10 games in a row and 21 of their last 22 games. The 10 straight wins is the fourth longest win streak of teams entering the World Series ever.
Boston has had the national stage to itself the past week coming from a 1-3 deficit in the ALCS to the Cleveland Indians and winning the AL Pennant by winning the final three games of the series.
Now the question persists; who do you want to bet on for game-1, the Sox or the Rox? If you like trends you might go for the streak and if you like pitching Beckett and the Sox will be your choice.
