Cardinals vs Rangers Game 5 World Series Odds 2011

by Alexander Banks on Monday, October 24th, 2011

Cardinals vs Rangers Game 5 World Series Odds 2011: Without wasting any time, or lollygagging around, I’ll say it right off the bat: tonight’s game is going to depend on whether or not Tony LaRussa’s starter has one more quality game left in him… that’s it! This game has all the ingredients of a trap-game. What do I mean by that?

Well, when you look at the numbers, you may just go with what appears to be the obvious choice… I’ll break it down! As we all know, postseason play more often than not, comes down to the starting pitchers. Tonight, we have a tale of two completely different aces

For the St. Louis Cardinals [+117 ML], they are the underdogs despite the fact that their starter, RHP Chris Carpenter (2011 postseason: 3-0, 3.52 ERA in 23 IP) has yet to lose a single game in all of the 2011 Playoffs [Tonight’s Cardinals vs Rangers Game 5 World Series Odds 2011 OVER/UNDER is set at a combined total of 8 runs].

Now, on the other dugout, you have a team that has yet to see their No.1 guy, LHP CJ Wilson (2011 postseason: 0-3, 7.17 ERA in 21.1 IP) win a single game this entire postseason. However, the Rangers are listed as the MLB betting odds favorites? Why, because they’re at home [Get $50 in Free MLB Picks Here!]?

If we know anything from these two teams is that home-field advantage isn’t much of a determining factor when it comes down to the outcome of the game. So why are the Rangers the World Series 2011 favorites in Game 5?

My Cardinals vs Rangers Game 5 2011 World Series Prediction: 2011 World Series Predictions Game 5: This has been a great World Series, no question about it. It sucks to say it, but somebody has to lose. Now, the biggest problem I have with making a prediction for tonight’s game is that this is the typical trap-game: you have a guy that has yet to lose in the postseason, against one that’s yet to win a single decision.

At first glance, one would say: this is easy; Carpenter and the Cardinals have the advantage. Problem is, that because Carpenter has pitched so well thus far, I sense he could have a let down sooner rather than later… but if I had to make a decision right now, the best one I can come up with is the St. Louis Cardinals at +1½! That at least would give a one-run cushion in the case that Carpenter doesn’t have his best stuff tonight… and if he’s on his game, he's the World Series MVP and the Cards would close it out in Game 6 at home!
